Judicial Orientation to Implement the Law for Yangtze River Protection of PRCAn Analysis of Policy Documents of Supreme People’s Court

The Yangtze River Protection Law （2020）is the first national law on river basin protection in China, which established the legal basis for the green development of the Yangtze River Basin. The Supreme People’s Court launched two judicial policy documents Implementation Opinions of the Supreme People’s Court on Implementing the Yangtze River Protection Law and Ten Typical Cases on Judicial Protection of Ecological Environment in Yangtze River Basin , which summarized the good judicial practice experience in the Yangtze River Basin, and pointed out the key areas and patterns of the judicial cases that should be paid great attention to in the future. The above judicial policy adopts the new classification of ecological and environmental cases and various procedures for litigation to enhance the applicability of the Yangtze River Protection Law . The judicial policy needs to realize typical cases on climate change and environmental governance services, and to stress the role of environmental public interest litigation in particular to implement civil public interest litigation incidental to environmental administration.
